Referendum restores city s committee system | Local Government Chronicle (LGC)

Referendum restores city’s committee system Sheffield City Council is set to revert to a committee system of governance after a successful local campaign. In a referendum alongside the recent council elections, voters backed the committee system over a leader-and-cabinet one by 89,670 votes to 48,727. The council is newly under no overall control following Labour losses at last week’s elections. The referendum was called in 2019 after the It’s Our City group collected enough signatures. It was postposed last year due to the pandemic. Two Labour cabinet members and four cabinet assistants resigned at the time to support a return to the committee system.

LETTER: MP s meat comments are astounding | Somerset County Gazette

SO, Dorset MP Chris Loder thinks encouraging young people to follow the science and reduce their carbon footprint by eating less meat is woke . He says it is astounding that the BBC programme suggested that children could reduce their meat consumption over a two-week period as one step towards earning a Blue Peter Green badge. More astounding is that the West Dorset MP is either unaware, or uninterested, in the scientific consensus - cutting meat and dairy consumption is an absolutely essential means of lowering emissions and meeting our climate targets. Does Chris Loder not see that British farmers are struggling, and undervalued, exactly because of the insatiable demand for cheap meat and dairy?

Chris Loder on road taskforce priorities in Dorset

This new law will mean that those who abuse animals will face proportionate justice for their crimes. I met with campaigners last week to discuss the impact of speeding on Dorset’s roads, and measures that could be taken to mitigate it. I subsequently chaired the inaugural meeting of my A-Roads Taskforce. This taskforce provides a focussed and close-knit group to agree on key priorities for our roads, such as flooding at Monkey’s Jump roundabout, flooding at Stratton and congestion along the A35. As summer approaches, I want the roads of West Dorset to be as safe and efficient as possible.
