Project offers free services to homeless

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) The Homeless Coalition teamed up with Housing First Inc. for the eighth annual Project Homeless Connect at The Grounds in West Mobile on Thursday.
Project Homeless Connect is a one-day event that connects people who are experiencing homelessness with valuable services and resources all under one roof, free of charge.
“If you had anything legal that was hanging over your head for instance. The courts are here to listen to you, the attorneys are here to help you,” said Derek Boulware, the chief executive officer of Housing First Inc. “The doctors and nurses are here to help you physically to sort of get you to a place where you can start your process on coming out of homelessness.”
Tampa investment firm acquires Mobile apartment complex for $33 million

A west Mobile apartment community has been acquired from a Tampa investment firm for a little over $33 million.
Morrison Avenue Capital Partners and its affiliate acquired Timber Ridge, located at 6700 Wall St. in Mobile, for $33.35 million, according to the Birmingham Business Journal. The cost per unit is over $100,000.
The property was most recently acquired in 2012 by an affiliate of Cottonwood Residential, out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Nine years ago, the community was acquired for more than $23 million and around $75,000 per unit, according to the publication.
“Timber Ridge is in a great submarket in West Mobile which has shown a lot of resiliency and growth over the past year,” Jimmy Adams of the Birmingham office of Cushman & Wakefield said in a prepared statement.

Domestic violence victim speaks out about alleged attack; suspect charged
MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) With bruises around her neck, a woman is sharing her story about an attack from her boyfriend, who now sits in Metro Jail.
The terrifying experience began inside her Mobile home, when she says an argument ended with 29-year-old Lance Lucas hitting and choking her. FOX10 News is not revealing the victim’s identity.
“He grabbed me by my shoulders, he threw me down on the floor, started choking me, and I thought I was dead,” the alleged victim told FOX10 News. “I thought I was going to die.”
