So, back in the spring of 2019, when the popular Wynwood venue, the Wynwood Yard, closed shop and promised to open a new location in Downtown Doral, it was certainly a headscratcher. May 21 Authorities have arrested a man they say ran two brothels in Miami-Dade County, including one disguised as a spa in a West Kendall business park. The spa was located next door to a child day care center.
Almicar Jose Leon, 42, who is also a licensed Florida real estate agent, was jailed late Thursday on over two dozen charges, including money laundering and deriving financial support from prostitution.
According to an arrest report, investigators discovered that Leon ran the spa at 13155 SW 134th Street, where at least six women worked in the sex trade. The women advertised on social media platforms, according to an arrest report by the State Attorney Office s Human Trafficking Task Force.
On May 13, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) performed an abrupt about-face on its mask guidance, recommending that people who are fully vaccinated could stop wearing facemasks under most circumstances. The update, titled, Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People, stated that fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any setting, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
Suddenly, per the CDC, it was entirely up to local businesses to choose whether to require that their clientele wear masks.
