Patient burgled West Cumberland Hospital pharmacy fridge and injected stolen drug

A patient who burgled a hospital pharmacy fridge and injected himself with a drug he took has been handed a suspended jail term.
James Leslie Foxcroft, 32, visited the West Cumberland Hospital at around 3am on July 29 last year.
He initially left a cubicle heâd been told to stay in, prompting a search by a concerned doctor and nursing staff.
When Foxcroft returned, he was seen to have scratches to a forearm with blood on his shirt and fingers.
Staff then found the door to a refrigerated pharmacy was open.
A HOSPITAL education centre has gone the extra mile to ensure the safety of staff and students with the help of a specialist upholstery firm. Chairs and seats at the James George Education Centre at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle have been reupholstered in an easy-to-clean, antimicrobial surface to help prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The work was done by Ghyll House Upholstery and Design based at Mealsgate, near Cockermouth in Cumbria. It is the latest in a series of projects in the medical sector for the Ghyll House team, which has completed similar work for several GP surgeries in Cumbria and Yorkshire.
A GRATEFUL stall owner is giving back to NHS staff while markets are postponed during the Covid-19 pandemic. Bron Stringer sells her homemade bath bombs on markets in Workington, Cockermouth and Silloth under normal circumstances but during lockdown, she has focussed the efforts of her business on NHS lifesavers. Bron was recently admitted to West Cumberland Hospital with a heart problem caused by her medication and the care she received motivated her to make NHS themed bath bombs for NHS heroes. “I was really poorly, I was in primary care. I had treatment second to none. I thought if I can do something to give back I will.”

A business case for the second phase of the West Cumberland Hospital redevelopment in Whitehaven has been approved, following completion of the first phase in 2015.
Outline consent was awarded in October and a full planning application is expected to be submitted in the coming months.
The £40m second phase of the hospital redevelopment is intended to upgrade facilities for patients and staff to create a better environment, while retaining bed capacity and services and improving the hospital’s ability to undertake additional planned operations in future.
The scheme is being delivered by North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust, which completed the first phase, which cost around £90m and saw the opening of the new hospital building, in 2015. Subsequent work completed in 2019 to open a breast screening department and redevelop the cardiology and vascular services at the hospital.
Approved: Artist impression of the new West Cumberland Hospital as phase two gets the green light The second phase of the redevelopment of the West Cumberland Hospital has been approved. The £40m investment to deliver the next phase of redevelopment was given the go-ahead by the NHS Improvement. The development will bring a huge upgrade in facilities for both patients and staff. It is proposed that it will create a better environment, retaining bed capacity and services for the site and improving the capacity to undertake additional planned operations in the future. North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has developed an ambitious plan to replace about 40 per cent of the original structure at the hospital and build on the £90m first phase of the project which was completed in 2015.
