There were five reported COVID-19 deaths in Oxford and Elgin counties since Friday, Southwestern public health confirmed.

There were five more COVID-19 deaths in the Oxford and Elgin counties region since Friday, the area’s health unit reported.
Three of the deaths were linked to the ongoing outbreak at the Maple Manor long-term care home in Tillsonburg, bringing the toll there to 20. Three of the five were people in their 70s, one was a woman in her 60s and another was a woman in her 90s.

There were 15 new COVID-19 cases and 31 recoveries in the Southwestern public health region as of Friday, dropping the number of active cases to 255.
Southwestern public health confirmed there were two additional COVID-19 deaths – both unrelated to a long-term care or retirement homes – as of Tuesday.

While the topic of lead-footed drivers – and the speed limit in the Beachville area – is starting to accelerate around the county table, it’s going to remain as is for the time being.
Oxford County councillors voted to maintain speed limits at either edge of the South-West Oxford Township hamlet at 80 kilometres per hour while keeping the 50 km/h limit in its residential area. The county and Oxford provincial police will instead conduct a minimum of three week-long trials in different areas of Beachville to garner additional data on drivers’ habits and the effectiveness of speed-management measures.
