KCDC secures 25 housing vouchers for young adults leaving foster care
Knoxville’s Community Development Corporation (KCDC) has secured 25 vouchers through a new federal housing grant to assist young adults ages 18-24 who have aged out of the foster care system.
The organization recently applied for the Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) grant – which is administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development – and earned funding based on KCDC’s track record of Section 8 housing success and its working relationship with the Department of Children’s Services (DCS).
May 3, 1867: The Union Flag reported news about a shoplifter. âOn Tuesday night last, a young man by the name of Haze, living in Greene county (sic), came to town, riding a sorrel horse, and while at the store of Dosser and Fain, quietly slipped a pair of pants under his coat, but the old saying, of âany fool can steal, but it takes a smart man to hide,â was again verified; for sly as he thought he was, he was nicely caught and made to own up. While board and lodging were being engaged for him at Mr. Pruettâs, the jailor, he mounted his horse and left at a 2-40 rate. In these days of thievery all should be on the watch especially when Mr. Haze is about.â

Knoxville group invests in RT Lodge to preserve community ties and legacy
A local partnership of Knoxville hospitality owners has invested in RT Lodge to preserve the history and community essence of the iconic property located on the Maryville College campus.
Often lauded as one of the best-kept hospitality secrets in the region, RT Lodge encompasses seven acres and has served for decades as a special place for gatherings and events with a historic lodge, natural grounds and award-winning dining.
The partnership, Morningside Lodge, LLC, has pledged to oversee the lodge, restaurant and grounds in a way that honors its place in the East Tennessee community. Built as a home by Susan Wiley Walker in the early 1930s, its original name was Morningside. Walker bequeathed the property to Maryville College, which has served as steward since 1950.
