HOGAN LIFTS MORE COVID RESTRICTIONS: Due to rapidly declining coronavirus positivity rates and improved vaccination metrics this weekend the state will lift all capacity restrictions on entertainment venues and dining establishments, Bryan Renbaum reports for Maryland Reporter.
In the latest sign that the state is emerging from a pandemic that has upended everyday life for more than a year, Gov. Larry Hogan on Wednesday eased most of the remaining restrictions on public gatherings and commerce, reports Bruce DePuyt for Maryland Matters.

Maryland Secretary of Planning Robert S. McCord reminded members of the nonpartisan, nine-member commission Wednesday that, due to COVID-related Census delays, redistricting data might not be available for some time.
Census officials released their first round of data last week, but block-by-block population data that state officials need to draw districts of equal size will be released by Aug. 16 as an untabulated legacy format summary file, according to the Census Bureau.

Bethesda student wins 2021 Congressional Art Competition
A student at Bethesda’s Walter Johnson High School has won the 2021 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s 8th District.
In a press release Wednesday, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Maryland) announced that Yun Ji Choi’s digital piece “Promise To Keep You Safe” will hang in the U.S. Capitol for a year alongside the winning entries from every congressional district in the nation. [Patch]

Gov. Lawrence J. Hogan Jr. s redistricting commission tasked with making recommendations on congressional and legislative maps that he will submit to the General Assembly finalized its membership Thursday.

Hogan (R) named retired federal judge Alexander Williams (D), Howard Community College President Kathleen Hetherington (I), and Walter Olson (R), senior fellow at the Cato Institute s Robert A. Levy Center for Constitutional Studies in Washington, D.C. as the Maryland Citizens Redistricting Commission s co-chairs in January.
