Vaccinating tourism industry employees, including restaurant and bar workers, is important to reopening the island’s economy and tourism industry, according to the Guam Hotel and Restaurant Association, which this week asked employers to help provide an accurate count of workers, including furloughed workers, who will need vaccines.
“The goal will be to have scheduled vaccination clinics for the workforce,” said GHRA President Mary Rhodes, or, at a minimum, expanding vaccine eligibility to those workers.
The government’s Vaccine and Antiviral Prioritization Policy Committee has not yet expanded eligibility to workers in the food and hospitality industries.
All residents 50 and older will be eligible for vaccines, starting next week, the committee decided, but vaccines so far have been approved only for the following occupations, regardless of age: school workers involved with face-to-face instruction; child care workers; healthcare workers; law enforcement; funeral and cem
