Apr. 29 The idea of rental assistance the government stepping in to pay people s rent to prevent them from losing their home is not new, but it has taken on a new prominence and urgency in the pandemic, as billions of federal dollars have helped pull tenants out from under mounting debt. Now, Washington state is making that policy permanent. Legislators passed a bill on the penultimate day of the session that creates a dedicated funding source for ongoing rental assistance through a $100 surcharge on recorded documents.

A 14-year pancreatic cancer survivor he lived every day to the fullest and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Tim was born in Ogdensburg on May 21, 1951. He was a member of the 1969 last graduating class of St. Mary’s Academy and went on to earn his Associate Degree in Business Administration at Canton College. Upon graduation he joined the St. Lawrence National Bank (now Community Bank) where he held a number of different positions including head of the Credit Department and Loan Processing; Vice President, Commercial and Consumer lending group; Merger and Acquisition team leader; Chief Financial Officer; and Senior Vice President and Director of Special Projects. He retired in 2016.

Yvonne Evans emailed saying: Dear Jeff, very pleased to see that your column is continuing in the Western Telegraph with lots of interesting information. I was particularly interested in the picture of the Milford Docks area last week, but not because of the trawlers, but of the view of the cottages of Marine Gardens on the left side of the main track. My parents-in-law, Harry and Lil Evans, had rooms in one of the cottages soon after they moved to Milford Haven and then subsequently moved to Vicary Crescent when their houses were built.
