FREEPORT Against the backdrop of a bright blue sky with summer heat, Debate Square on Saturday became the place of nature lovers and those wanting to learn about conservation.
Organizers came up with Earth Fest after two years of weather and COVID-19 issues disrupted holding Earth Day events in April. Laura Dufford, one of the organizers, said holding Earth Fest in June was about making sure spring weather did not play a factor in ruining the event for another year.
“We celebrate the Earth each year, and the last couple of years have made it a challenge, so we switched gears, she said. Earth Day really is every day, not just in April, so today we want people to get out and learn, explore and appreciate nature.”
