The Government of Canada supports these communities by investing in local organizations that provide tools and opportunities to help their members learn, retain, and celebrate their language. Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (FedDev Ontario and Official Languages), confirmed today that the Government of Canada invested $1.6 million in 2020–2021 program funding to 30 organizations in Southern Ontario. JOHN S, NL, May 20, 2021 /CNW/ - The Government of Canada continues to support its network of partners to enhance the vitality of official language minority communities, while also contributing to innovation and excellence. Marie-France Lalonde, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages (FedDev Ontario and Official Languages), announced the Government of Canada has invested $1.6 million in 2020-2021 in eight organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador. That represents a 33-percent funding increase since 2018, which goes directly to organizations in the province so they can play a greater role in maintaining the vitality of the Acadian and Francophone communities. She made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages.
