Flirting with the First Amendment

Flirting with the First Amendment Photo by FL-photography/Getty Images In the aftermath of the January 6 riots on the Capitol, we have witnessed a change in how tech companies view, regulate speechand control speech. In the days and weeks since January 6, multiheaded pseudo private actors have fundamentally altered the bedrock of American democracy free speech. No longer can private companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google, Instagram, Snapchat and others hide behind the veil of their “private” shield, because they created themselves for the sole purpose of being thrust into the mitochondria of all that is public. According to a CRS Report prepared for members and committees of Congress, the Supreme Court will only apply the First Amendment against private parties (companies) if they have a “sufficiently close relationship” to the government. This will occur where a private company finds itself under extensive state regulation.

Court Denies Defendant s Request for New Court Appointed Attorney – Sheridan Media

A virtual status conference was held in Fourth Judicial District Court Thursday for Marie Franks of Sheridan, who is charged with Felony Child Abuse for an alleged incident that occurred on June 19 of last year at a residence in Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details. Request for New Court Appointed Attorney Denied A request made by Franks for a new court appointed attorney was denied by the Court, as District Court Judge John Fenn said the information provided by Franks was not adequate enough to warrant a new public defender. Franks during the hearing, stated that she felt Anna Malmberg, her court appointed attorney, was not representing her properly, as she said Malmberg did not provide any type of strategy for her defense, and she felt as though her attorney was not taking her seriously.

Status Conference Held in District Court for Sheridan Woman Charged With Felony Child Abuse – Sheridan Media

Status Conference In November, the Wyoming Supreme Court issued an order suspending all scheduled jury trials in the state due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A status conference was held Tuesday for Marie Franks of Sheridan, who was scheduled to stand trial this week for the charge of Felony Child Abuse. The charge stems from an alleged incident that occurred on June 19 at a residence in Sheridan.  Since Franks has not waived her right to a speedy jury trial, District Court Judge John Fenn ruled that there was sufficient evidence to extend the jury trial date due to the Supreme Court ruling and the safety and health issues of holding a jury trial at this time.
