BISHOPS Green residents are up in arms about proposals to build 400 new homes in their village.
As reported in the Newbury Weekly News last week, a huge housing development could be built on Bishops Green Farm after the owner entered an agreement with Catesby Estates to promote the site.
This means that Catesby Estates would seek to get outline planning permission for a development and then market the site to housebuilders.
The company has put together a ‘vision’ for the village, transforming it from an “incidental settlement” to a “sustainable village community”, bringing social and economic benefits.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of an Andover man charged with drug driving. Abdulhakin Mohamed Ahmed, of Turin Court, was charged with driving while his levels of THC, a chemical found in cannabis, were 3.5 microgrammes per litre of blood. The legal limit is two microgrammes. Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court issued a warrant for the 22-year-old’s arrest.
Vehicle charges A 33-year-old from Collingbourne Ducis is to stand trial after crashing an unlawfully taken vehicle. Jonathan Christian T Lane, of Knapp Close, has been charged with taking a vehicle from Andover on July 18, 2019, and causing damage of less than £5000 before it was recovered.
ALTHOUGH many resist the idea that hard copy print products – call them books! - are on the way out, there are obvious advantages with digital files. Whereas, for example, sourcing Anglo-Saxon charters once required a dusty encounter in an academic library, much can now be achieved online from the ‘electronic Sawyer’, a version of Peter Sawyer’s annotated list and bibliography, hosted at the Centre for Computing in the Humanities at King’s College, London. The charters themselves, however, are published in a mammoth 30-volume operation by Oxford University Press. Sean Miller’s Charters of the New Minster (later Hyde Abbey) has been in print since 2001 and covers 34 pre-Conquest documents, including the will of Alfred the Great.
