In normal circumstances, when people talk about living dangerously, we re thinking in terms of narrow scrapes with the law; risking our necks climbing a high peak or venturing into the gap of danger in a myriad of other manners. The past twelve months, the age of the new normal , was when the year of living dangerously meant dicing with death by going to the shops; putting your life in peril going to Mass or placing yourself in the lap of the Gods with a saunter down the pub for a pint of an evening. Our elderly relatives living in the care and comfort of nursing homes whom we thought were safe and secure were, in fact, especially vulnerable. More than half of those who died since the beginning of this perilous year were residents of nursing homes or care facilities.
