Keep lobbying councillors to save Ganavan

Want to read more? At the start of the pandemic in March we took the decision to make online access to our news free of charge by taking down our paywall. At a time where accurate information about Covid-19 was vital to our community, this was the right decision – even though it meant a drop in our income. In order to help safeguard the future of our journalism, the time has now come to reinstate our paywall, However,  rest assured that access to all Covid related news will still remain free. To access all other news will require a subscription, as it did pre-pandemic. The good news is that for the whole of December we will be running a special discounted offer to get 3 months access for the price of one month. Thank you for supporting us during this incredibly challenging time.

Sign Up Controversial plans for a new building in one of Scotland’s most picturesque towns have been backed by the Scottish Government. Argyll and Bute councillors went against planners’ advice and approved the development in Tobermory, despite concerns over a possible flood risk. Local company Argyll Properties is to create a shop and visitor centre, with self-catering accommodation upstairs, on land adjacent to the harbour association’s Taigh Solais premises. The harbour association building is home to Mull Aquarium, the public toilet and laundry and shower facilities. The new visitor centre is to be used by the harbour board to expand its attractions. The plan was backed by 50 individuals who wrote letters of support.

Sign Up Residents on an Inner Hebridean island are having to travel up to six miles just to access safe drinking water. Coll, situated west of Mull in the Argyll and Bute Council area has 102 properties on mains water with 126 on private supplies. Due to the land having a lot of rock with lead in it, many of the private water supplies do not meet health regulations. It means many islanders have to drive six miles to access the public tap in the main village of Arinagour.
