Baystate Health tells Ware selectmen closing of Mary Lane in best interest of patients, healthcare community Updated Feb 18, 2021; WARE – A senior Baystate Health official told the board of selectmen at Tuesday’s meeting that the decision to close Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center was a “difficult decision” but is necessary for the greater good. If the state department of public health agrees with Baystate’s plans, Mary Lane’s emergency room function and cancer treatment operations will end in June, and the entire facility will close in two years. Baystate’s Eastern Region President Molly Gray told Ware selectmen on Tuesday that the organization is in the process of submitting material to the DPH, which will make a determination of need, and decide whether to approve the idea.

IC man who reported being robbed arrested after allegedly badgering police

2/3/21 Iowa City Police made an arrest during a robbery investigation Tuesday night…but it was the alleged victim who was taken into custody. According to arrest records, 27-year-old Dwayne Eskridge of Kirkwood Avenue reported being robbed just before 7:45 Tuesday night at The Quarters apartments on Highway 6 East.  Eskridge told investigators he was trying to but a gram of marijuana when the suspect stole $2,000 from him. Police told Eskridge to leave the scene while they tried to contact the suspect. Instead, Eskridge allegedly made several threatening statements about handling the situation himself if the police didn’t do anything. Police say he also refused to leave the parking lot, remaining there for over an hour.

In addition, Baystate Health has announced plans for a virtual community meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. to discuss the closure and future plans for patient care. But to Tracy Opalinski of Ware, that means four of the 28 patients each day are experiencing a life-threatening situation and need to get to an emergency room right away.

Operations at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center in Ware will gradually be shifted to other facilities including Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, Dr. Mark Keroack, president and CEO of Springfield-based Baystate Health said Tuesday. We are simply not seeing people go there when they are sick, Keroack said, according to Masslive.com. Nearly half of the facility s capacity is unused during the day and 90% is unused overnight, he said. It s hard to recruit doctors to the facility and tough to maintain a century-old building, he said.
