€1 mill rent for civil service offices in Portlaoise while €1 mill site for HQ in Laois town lies idle Plan needed to end haphazard decentralisation says Brian Stanley Reporter: );   ); Nearly €1 million is being spent in Laois each year renting offices for civil servants while a site which cost over €1 million for a new HQ in Portlaoise lies idle according to Sinn Fein TD Brian Stanley. The Laois Offaly TD called for a plan to resolve the situation which has its origins in Charlie McCreey s decentralisation project announced nearly two decades ago. Many jobs moved to Portlaoise through the Department of Agriculture.

RTÉ unveils sparkling New Year s Eve entertainment Updated / Sunday, 20 Dec 2020 06:00 Deirdre O Kane and Kathryn Thomas will help viewers to ring in the New Year RTÉ One has unveiled a sparkling line-up of New Year s Eve programming that will feature music, comedy and chat to welcome 2021. Soundtrack to My Life, presented by Nicky Byrne will showcase one of Ireland s greatest bands, Kodaline, and the live  NYE Countdown Show with presenters Kathryn Thomas and Deirdre O Kane will shine a spotlight on some of Ireland s best home grown talent.  In  Soundtrack To My Life Kodaline collaborate with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra to create a unique playlist of songs that mean the most to them and reveal to presenter Nicky Byrne the stories behind their choices. 

The 4 of Us, Mary Coughlan and Moya Brennan lined up for virtual gigs from Naul

The Seamus Ennis Arts Centre in Naul is throwing open its virtual doors on December 17, 18 and 19 for three special live performances from the venue to be streamed live on the internet. The streamed gigs will be free and will feature The 4 of Us, Mary Cougllan and Moya Brennan with Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Cormac de Barra. Confirmed support acts for the three virtual gigs are are Peter O Toole, Ultan Connolly and Sult . A spokesperson for the Naul venue said: After what has been a rough year for the arts, we are delighted to continue to support Irish artists and thrilled to provide these live concerts free, as our gift to you this festive season, with generous support from Creative Ireland, The Arts Council, Fingal County Council and Rural Leader.
