PLANS to create holiday units in converted shipping containers on a city’s green belt have been greeted with a storm of protest from residents and environmental groups. Objectors have called on Durham county councillors to reject proposals for four self-catering units proposed jointly by Unbox Limited and the Poplar Tree Garden Centre in Shincliffe, near Durham. Shincliffe Green Belt Action Group spokesperson Colin Jubb said: “Not only is the site on protected countryside within the Durham Green Belt it is also in the setting of the village s conservation area. “Residents are justifiably appalled by the idea of having converted shipping containers supported on stilts sitting on their doorstep.

Durham Woman FC give £2,400 boost to campaign to end child food poverty DURHAM Women FC are celebrating after more than £2,400 was raised by their terrific supporters as part of the campaign to end child food poverty. Having been inspired by Marcus Rashford’s prominent push to ensure no child went hungry, the club asked for donations from supporters who enjoyed their live streams against Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa, Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool. The club s initial target of £1,000 will be distributed to schools, community groups and families in County Durham to ensure nobody goes hungry. Covid vaccine clinics cancelled as region set to see supply halved from next week THE Covid vaccine supply to the North-East and Yorkshire is set to be slashed from next week as NHS bosses admit other parts of the UK need to catch up. GPs surgeries across the region are set to receive just half the expected supply of doses as some practices have already started cancelling vaccine clinics. It is understood that as a result primary care settings will be given just 100,000 doses of the vaccine, down from 200,000 across the entire region. Earlier this week, the Director for Primary Care at NHS England responded to concerns raised by a North-East GP who said vaccine clinics could no longer run run as a result.
