2 Kids Safe After Officials Say Citizen Helps Track Down Amber Alert, Murder Suspect Law enforcement said it was a citizen who helped get a murder suspect arrested within hours of an Amber Alert being issued. The Amber Alert was issued for Sabrina Spurlock Monday night after deputies said she killed her father in Wagoner County then took off with her two kids. One person saw the alert, then spotted Spurlock’s car in a motel parking lot, three hours south of the scene. Deputies said Spurlock then led Caddo police officers on a short chase before she was arrested and taken to the Bryan County jail. 

3 Lamar murder suspects now indicted in Oklahoma homicide case

Oklahoma Indictment On Friday, July 23, 2021, a grand jury indicted four more suspects in the kidnapping and death of an Osage Nation resident. This brings the number to eleven Joplin area residents charged related to the case. (Read more on this case here) “The 11 defendants charged were allegedly involved in either the kidnapping and resulting death of Jolene Walker Campbell or with threatening witnesses and concealing evidence to cover up their crimes,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson. Campbell’s body was found on July 15, 2020, in a remote field in Mayes County, Oklahoma within the boundaries of the Muscogee Nation. Authorities allege the kidnapping and resulting death happened between July 4 and 5, 2020.

Amber Alert Suspect In Custody; Accused Of Shooting, Killing Her Father

By: News On 6, Grant Stephens WAGONER COUNTY, Oklahoma - Police arrested a woman accused of murdering her father in Wagoner County, then taking off with her two children which led to an Amber Alert. 29-year-old Sabrina Spurlock is accused of shooting and killing her dad, then taking off with her two young kids. Authorities said Spurlock is now in custody in Bryan County. Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliot tells News On 6 that Caddo Police arrested Spurlock just before 9 p.m. Monday and the two kids, ages eight and six, are safe. Deputies said Spurlock shot and killed her father Monday afternoon in Rocky Point, then took her children. When deputies got to the home, they said they found Tommy Spurlock Jr. inside, shot in the chest. The deputies tried to save his life, but Tommy was pronounced at the scene.

Kidwell wins runoff for At-Large Tribal Council seat

TAHLEQUAH – According to unofficial results, Johnny Jack Kidwell, of Tulsa, has secured the Tribal Council’s At-Large seat during the Cherokee Nation’s July 24 runoff election against Kyle Haskins. According to unofficial Election Commission results, Kidwell received 1,525 votes, or 60.3%, to Haskins 1,004 votes, or 39.7%. Voting in the race consisted of absentee ballots and early walk-in voting. According to his campaign website, Kidwell’s platform solutions included elder care, health care, mental health, education and training. “As your councilor I will work diligently to explore new funding streams and allocate appropriate resources toward establishing state-of-the-art senior living communities and elder care facilities that can be accessible to citizens living at-large,” he states on his campaign website.

Tulsa-Area Higher Education Leaders Hopeful Consortium Can Help Students At All Their Institutions

Leaders of seven area colleges and universities are optimistic a new approach will help them graduate more students with degrees. The Tulsa Higher Education Consortium grew out of work to improve Tulsa Community College students’ experience transferring to other local institutions, and the organization wants to continue streamlining that process to make it easier for students to earn their degrees. THE Consortium Executive Director Dr. Laura Latta said something to keep in mind is the seven member institutions 40,000 students are a diverse group, so a one-size-fits-all education won’t work. Nearly half of students are age 25 or older and have jobs, homes and families, and students of color will likely be a majority of the area’s college students in the next 10 years.
