The Rainsville City Council held a budget workshop Thursday night to discuss possible changes to the 2020-21 budget.
City Accountant Betty Holcomb briefed the council on the calculations she made for the budget adjustments while asking for the councils input and recommendations.
Holcomb said by the end of the 2020 budget, the city came out about what they budgeted for the year.
âWe actually had more revenues than what we had budgeted,â she said. âThe majority of that would be in our gross receipts tax.â
Councilman Arlan Monkâ Blevins and Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt brought up the upgrading of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for the Rainsville Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Rainsville City Council accepted Allen Stiefel s resignation Monday night, effective immediately.
Stiefel, the former supervisor at the Rainsville Wastewater Treatment Plant was suspended without pay, pending an investigation. He was arrested in December after an illegal winery was discovered at the plant.
The council also discussed Jimmy Brooksâ move from Wastewater Treatment Plant Maintenance to interim Public Works Director.
The motion caused the council and mayor to be at odds over the temporary candidate for the position.
Rainsville Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt explained the move was temporary until the position was posted and they âsettled on a person.â
Councilman Bejan Taheri, who expressed his opposition, asked if Brooks would be receiving a pay raise, to which Lingerfelt said yes.
