More steps are being taken to increase affordable housing at the local level.
On Tuesday, May 11, council approved a community-led approach for an Affordable Housing Strategy. Heartland Housing Foundation will take the reins on the report and will be including community partners, including the county’s Social Framework Leadership Table.

Ward 4 Coun. Bill Tonita, who tabled the motion, said this move recognizes that there is a need for council to take action in this area. He added the county should be mindful of federal grants that are up for grabs.

In a last-ditch effort to stall both of Strathcona County’s next major growth nodes, Ward 6 Coun. Linton Delainey proposed the idea of asking residents whether or not they support developing Bremner, Cambrian Crossing, and anything north of Highway 16 on the election ballot this fall.
