Overnight Shelters May Stay Open Year-Round In Sacramento

By Sasha Margulies, iHeart Media Mar 5, 2021 A Sacramento City Council vote next week will decide the fate of overnight shelters for the region s homeless population. After two homeless people died in the brutal winter storms a month ago, council members decided to require overnight shelters to open when temperatures get below 32 degrees. Now, they will decide whether to eliminate the weather criteria, and keep shelters open year-round. In a letter to the Sacramento Bee, Mayor Darrell Steinberg is urging council members to approve the initiative.
