City supports bringing high-speed Internet to underserved areas of Oshawa

The City of Oshawa is supporting an application from Rogers Communications for federal funding to bring high-speed Internet to some areas of Oshawa.
Rogers has submitted an application under the Federal Government’s $1.75 billion Universal Broadband Fund to connect eligible homes and businesses in Oshawa to Rogers’ high-speed Internet network.
According to the city, the households are primarily in the rural areas of Oshawa, and the application would also see connection for businesses in the Northwood Business Park.
The City says there are no associated costs to the municipality of community members in connection with the application.

Oshawa Mayor Dan Carter says the rest of Canada is discovering why so many are proud to live, work and learn in Oshawa.
“We offer excellent value to homebuyers, connected transit, convenient access to services, and amazing parks and trails, as well as world-class education and strong employment growth,” he says.
Oshawa CMA anticipates major GDP growth in city

Oshawa is expected to see a rebound in gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the Oshawa Census Metropolitan Area (CMA).
The Conference Board of Canada is anticipating GDP growth of 5.2 per cent this year, and 4.7 per cent in 2022, according to the Winter 2021 Major City Insights Report.
The report also anticipates that manufacturing output in the Oshawa area will rebound by 8.2 per cent in 2021 and 8.5 per cent in 2022, while construction output will rebound by 6.8 per cent in 2021 and 4.3 per cent in 2022.
Regional and City Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpitri, chair of the development services committee, says this is positive news for Oshawa that points to solid job and growth projections in the community.
