Dover NJ employees harassed, fired for backing ex-mayor, lawsuit says

Morristown Daily Record DOVER Three former employees are suing the town and its current administration for unlawful termination and harassment because they supported the previous mayor, who lost the 2019 election, the lawsuit states.   The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, says plaintiffs Ana Maria Amin and Sharon Wagner were terminated from their roles because of their public support of former Mayor James Dodd during the town s tense 2019 mayoral election. Michelle Espada is also listed as a plaintiff and alleges that Mayor Carolyn Blackman and the Board of Aldermen created a hostile work environment to force her to resign.  Defendants willfully and recklessly took adverse employment action against Plaintiffs in order to deny Plaintiffs their First Amendment right to free speech and association, reads the lawsuit, filed in  November.  Defendants’ actions were to penalize and retaliate against Plaintiffs for their exercise of fundamental First Amendment rig

Parsippany preps bodycam rollout for Morris County s largest police force

Morristown Daily Record PARSIPPANY The long, expensive and complex process of outfitting Morris County s largest police force with body cameras is nearing completion. Pending approval to clear final budget hurdles in the township s upcoming annual budget, Chief Andrew Miller said a grueling, three-year task of upgrading the department s computer servers and other preparations is largely done and they are in place to roll out fully equipped patrols in a matter of weeks after body cameras are approved for purchase. He requested about $96,000 in capital expenditure from the 2020-21 budget, scheduled to be introduced during the first week of March. That should cover the purchase of 90 bodycams, enough to equip all patrols and supervisors in the field.

City of San Diego offers low-interest rate loans to help businesses adapt during pandemic

Loans ranging from $25,000 to $95,000 for businesses that meet criteria as part of CARES Act Revolving Loan Fund. In order to help businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of San Diego is providing access to financial assistance to cover expenses such as furniture, safety equipment, website development and digital marketing. The financial assistance, in the form of low-interest rate loans, is aimed at helping businesses adapt by moving their operations outdoors or expanding services online.    “With the pandemic, it’s our goal as a City to do everything we can to help small businesses survive,” said Mayor Todd Gloria. “We hope by lending financial assistance, we can help these businesses with a much-needed lifeline during this time of uncertainty.”
