PORTSMOUTH The student became the master and now the former master could regain his previous role. If you replace master with Portsmouth 3rd Ward Councilman that pretty much describes what could be a post-Nov. 2 future.
With Mayor Kevin Johnson not seeking reelection, his former McKinley Middle School science teacher could be his replacement depending first on how voters place their ballots following the May 4 primary.
Jerry Skiver taught at McKinley and many other schools in his 38 years in education, spending a large portion of his time with Portsmouth City Schools. He led both in his classroom and central office during his tenure and now he is again seeking to lead the 3rd Ward.

PORTSMOUTH On Monday, he petitioned for a fellow ward resident’s right to have a beehive on his property. Following the results of the upcoming elections, he plans on advocating for the wants and needs of all his neighbors as its councilman.

“I have never been a politician and have never wanted to be a politician,” he said in a phone interview. “Portsmouth means a lot to me, I met my wife here, my whole family is here. I have seen a lot of great things happening here in Portsmouth.”
Council share vision on Market Square pavilion

PORTSMOUTH Portsmouth City Council took an early step Monday night in its ambitious Master Plan following extensive public comment and deliberation among city government officials.
At the request of Community Development Director Tracy Shearer, the council went ahead with authorizing the submittal of a grant application due June 1 and accepting that grant and obligations if funded. Council first toiled with the notion of tabling the resolution before all six council members voted in favor.
With this vote, the city could receive up to $40,782 through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks Grant, money of which would go to the Market Square Pavilion.

PORTSMOUTH From the campground rental spots to the recently introduced Master Plan, the City of Portsmouth has been attempting to create a buzz around its Ohio riverfront resource.
First discussed during last week’s City Managers session, 1st Ward Councilman Sean Dunne mentioned the latest idea in leading more people along that area.
