City increases fines, establishes reporting tool to curb graffiti

SHARE ON: - File photo Cold Lake says it is cracking down on graffiti vandalism by increasing fines for perpetrators and establishing a new web-based tool to report graffiti and encourage removal. “We’ve seen a jump in the number of residents reporting graffiti, whether it’s on their business, home, vehicles, or on public property,” said Mayor Craig Copeland. “Many of these complaints are coming from our downtown business community, but it’s not concentrated in just one area of the city. This is a problem that is affecting people in the north and south, both residential and commercial.”

In Tolaga Bay, a small town of about 800 people nearly an hour north of Gisborne, one end of the beach near the famous wharf is almost clear and sandy, with only a touch of wood nearby. But at the other end, piles of battered and bruised logs still sit. Diggers are still beside the beach, with caution tape and keep out signs plastered around. Instead of an easy route to the water s edge down here there are digger lines deep in the sand.

Lake Placid s Main Street overhaul will start this month | State News

LAKE PLACID â An infrastructure overhaul on Main Street is set to begin this month, and local officials used a recent virtual meeting to say what residents, business owners and tourists can expect on a day-to-day basis as this $10 million, nearly three-year project unfolds. A crew from Wilton-based construction company Kubricky Construction is expected to break ground on the Main Street project in the second week of April, according to Highway Superintendent Brad Hathaway. Traffic detours will start to be set up in about a week. This project will continue, off and on depending on the season, through fall 2023. The bulk of the work is expected to be done ahead of the 2023 World University Games.
