LDD moth infestations have been an issue in the Caledon region, impacting tree health. The non-native moth species can cause defoliation of trees in Ontario and, though the infestations can occur in cycles, it won’t necessarily happen every year.
The damage an LDD moth can do depends on the infestation but can range from light to nearly complete defoliation or loss of leaves in some situations the tree can die. Entering the third year of a population boom for the moths, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) is forecasting that they expect severe defoliation

The Province has slowly begun its re-opening with the stay-at-home order expiring June 2, just in time for Recreation and Park Month. Caledon is known for its outdoor resources like its hiking trails and bike paths, but additional amenities such as splash pads, tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, and skateparks are open.
The Town is encouraging residents to take advantage of the weather and outdoor facilities this June while underscoring the importance following the current public health guidelines.
After nearly 15 months of dealing with the impact of the pandemic, Mayor Allan Thompson knows people are itching to get to refresh their mental and physical health through recreation and is excited to see residents enjoying all Caledon has to offer.

With Council hoping to prioritize making Caledon age-friendly for all, they had urbanMetrics Inc. develop a 10-year Age-Friendly Caledon Action Plan. The action plan identifies key priorities and results in the form of short, medium, and long-term goals.
At the May 18 Council Meeting, urbanMetrics Inc. consulting partner Peter Thoma presented the action plan to Council. Council adopted the plan and implementation will begin immediately.
The reason for an age-friendly action plan in Caledon is because the number of older adults (55-plus) in Canada now exceeds the number of youth and are represented as one of the fastest growing segments of the population. Between 2021 and 2031 the number of older adults is expected to increase by over 10,000 in Caledon.
