MAPLETON, Utah â Mapleton police tried to stop a speeding car Monday night, but the chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier in a construction zone, with the young driver claiming he was attempting to take his own life.
An officer was patrolling for speeding violations on Main Street in Mapleton when he spotted a car going 70 mph in a 30 mph zone.
Attempts to make a traffic stop were discontinued after the vehicle almost collided with a second officer and nearly hit another vehicle on the road, as they feared a chase would pose a threat to public safety.
MAPLETON One person is in serious condition following a crash between a semitruck and car in Mapleton on Friday, according to the Mapleton Fire Department.
In a Facebook post, fire officials said at 12:15 p.m. crews responded to a crash between a semitruck and a car on U.S. Highway 89 and 1600 South. One person was transported to a trauma center in serious condition.

MAPLETON A 24-year-old woman was transported to the hospital after her car collided with a train near U.S. 89 and 2400 East on Friday, Mapleton City Fire Department said.
According to the department, the crash occurred around 2 p.m. on Friday. The woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was transported by emergency responders to the hospital.
Utah County Sheriff s Office Sgt. Spencer Cannon said that the woman was relatively uninjured in the accident. She was very fortunate, said Cannon. Really miraculous.
The woman reportedly told officials she thought the train was traveling slower than it was. The train caught the back end of her car, leaving the woman relatively unscathed. According to Cannon, if the woman had been traveling half a second slower she likely would be dead.
