Wheeling City Council To Hold Public Hearing Tuesday on Proposed Utility Rate Increases | News, Sports, Jobs

File photo WHEELING Wheeling City Council will hold its first regular meeting of the month Tuesday evening in order to accommodate public hearings on legislation related to proposed water, sewer and garbage collection rate increases. Typically held at noon during the first meeting of the month, city council will instead meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers at the City-County Building on Chapline Street downtown. The Development Committee of Council is scheduled to meet prior to the regular meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss several matters, including a proposed lane abandonment of a section of McColloch Street near Lane 26, changes to the city’s facade program, a demolition review ordinance and an executive session to discuss property acquisition and sales, which could be held after the completion of the regular city council meeting because of time constraints.

Apr 1, 2021 Alton Guy Daniels, 89, a lifelong resident of the Chenoweth Creek Community passed away Monday, March 29, 2021, following a brief illness and under the care of West Virginia Caring. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2021, at the Daniels/Chenoweth Cemetery, Maple Lane, Elkins, with Pastor Tim Turner and Pastor David Collins officiating. Interment will follow. Flag presentation will be made by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard program. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Mr. Daniels. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins in charge of the arrangements for Alton Guy Daniels.

Elgin man found guilty of second-degree murder in shooting of teenage rival

Updated 3/15/2021 6:21 PM An Elgin man was convicted Monday of second-degree murder for the shooting of a teenage rival in December 2016. Kane County Judge David Kliment issued the guilty verdict finding that Anton N. Cross killed Timothy Jones, 18, also of Elgin. Cross was 17 at the time.   He had been charged with first-degree murder, but Kliment found that Cross acted out of an unreasonable belief he faced death or imminent danger when he shot Jones and found him guilty of the lesser offense, according to a spokesman for the Kane County state s attorney s office. Cross, of the 300 block of Washington Street, has been in the Kane County jail since August 2018.

No. 3 and the White Hills Co. No. 5 responded with an engine to a fire alarm activation at an Elderberry Lane address. There was no fire. At 11:04 p.m., the Huntington Co. No. 3 and the Echo Hose Co. No. 1 responded with two rescue trucks to a carbon monoxide alarm activation at the Marriott Residence Inn, 1001 Bridgeport Ave.
