I was appalled to see Gavin Donohue in his commentary “There’s a role for natural gas in the renewable-energy future, March 2, advocate for burning gas to create electricity and then using that electricity to mine crypto-currency. If we parse his words carefully, he is saying that an otherwise non-competitive energy plant can use this strategy to stay in business, and we should all be happy because that plant will provide backup energy when we need it.
