Gloriavale Christian Community on the West Coast has been investigated by police after allegations of child sex abuse. The offending happened against two 14-year-old boys and a 13-year-old boy. Judge Mark Callaghan suppressed the man’s name and background but allowed media to report that the offending happened at Gloriavale. The man was remanded on bail on the conditions he does not contact the victims, except for restorative justice, and lives at a property that is not at the Gloriavale community.
Alden Williams/Stuff Judge David Saunders granted the man name suppression in September. Police prosecutor Mathew Wood asked the court to suppress all details.
The Grizzlies finished the 20-game pandemic season at 14-6 and celebrated with the obligatory champions’ group picture at centre ice. Shortened season or not, the players were not going to be denied that moment.
The second-place Bulldogs (10-5-4) have a game remaining, tonight against the Nanaimo Clippers (8-11), but can’t catch the Grizzlies. The Cowichan Valley Capitals finished at 7-11-2. There are no playoffs.
“I told the players to enjoy this and to appreciate it and that nobody can take it away from them,” said Grizzlies GM and head coach Craig Didmon.
“It was a tough season, considering the circumstances, but they stuck to it. They wanted this and deserved it. We had a strong team and deserved the outcome we got. It’s a testament to the players’ dedication and commitment. It’s an especially incredible moment for our six graduating 20-year-olds.”
MONTREAL Veteran CHOM 97.7 radio host Terry DiMonte is stepping away from the mic after 43 years. The popular Montreal radio host is set for his final live broadcast at the end of the month on May 28. “It’s a very difficult thing to walk away from something that has been so good to me and that I love so much,” said DiMonte in a news release. “It was a very tough decision for me to make, but one I’ve been pondering for a couple of years, and it is time for a new chapter… one that doesn’t include getting up in the middle of the night!”
