Police call in several people in relation to Hillman-Schembri money laundering probe Financial practitioner Matthew Pace, former Allied Newspaper director Vince Buhagiar and Keith Schembri’s business partner Malcolm Scerri questioned by police 8 March 2021, 8:15pm by Karl Azzopardi Financial services practitioner Matthew Pace was called in for questioning by police in relation to the money laundering probe involving Adrian Hillman and Keith Schembri, MaltaToday has learnt. Pace, a director and shareholder of Zenith Financial Management, was one of several people questioned over the past couple of days. MaltaToday understands that Keith Schembri’s business partner, Malcolm Scerri and former Allied Newspaper director Vince Buhagiar were also called in for questioning.

Better than nothing : bar owners lukewarm about €2,870 COVID grant

Bar owners expected more than the amount they were given to make up for the months they had to close shop, although they admit “it was better than nothing at all”. Others were satisfied, saying that, when added to other benefits from schemes such as those covering rent, utility tariffs and employees’ wages, the latest assistance was of great help. The government last week announced new COVID-19 mitigation measures that include an extension on the closure of bars throughout February, a €2.2 million aid package for bar owners and an 11pm curfew for restaurants. Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo announced that bars can apply for a one-time payment of up to €2,870 to offset five months of shutdown.

Courtesy photo NEWBERRY Timothy Beaudoin, Newberry City Fire Department, graduated from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s South Carolina Fire Academy (eight-week firefighter candidate school in Columbia) on Dec. 4. Beaudoin, along with 21 other recruits, underwent a 320-hour training program of classroom and hands-on firefighting skills development. Keynote speaker was Chief William Broscious, Columbia Fire Department. “This challenging program requires commitment, passion, and dedication,” Fire Academy Superintendent Dennis Ray said. “These recruits have successfully worked together as a team, performed extensive hands-on training with live fires, and passed intensive practical skills evaluations and written tests to meet the National Fire Protection Association standards.”
