LifeStream ramps up blood drives in the High Desert amid extreme shortage

LifeStream Blood Bank is hoping to combat what officials with the nonprofit are calling an “extreme blood shortage” by staging multiple drives across the High Desert this week.
Organization officials say Southern California hospitals are seeing an increased need for blood as their operations start to normalize amid decreasing instances of COVID-19. But LifeStream reported having less than half a day’s supply on its shelves as of June 16. That amounts to fewer than 200 units for the more than 80 hospitals the organization serves, according to a press release.
