The Most Unreliable Car You ve Owned

Image: Mini I currently own my least reliable car. It’s in the shop. Again. 2010 Mini Clubman S. I learned to drive in a ‘73 BMW Bavaria (3L 6-cyl), which was as bulletproof a car as there ever was. My dad had 6 BMWs over 30 years, each one reliable, and of course, fun to drive. But modern BMWs aren’t reliable, and that extends to the Mini brand. Yes, lots of fun to drive, and stick, of course. Unfortunately, my story isn’t unique the Mini community is rife with reports of reliability issues. I am looking forward to getting whatever is next (haven’t decided, yet).

Calls for Budget to include free kindy

Mum calls for free kindy as low-income families fall through welfare net Politics by Judith Kerr Premium Content Subscriber only A massive $1.7 billion childcare funding boost, promised in this week s federal budget, has been hailed as a lifesaver for some families but a failure for others. Under the budget deal, childcare subsidies will increase for families with a second and subsequent child in care. It is expected the increase, due to start in July 2022, will benefit 35,000 Queensland families by removing a $10,560 cap for couples with a combined income of more than $189,390. It will mean a family earning $110,000 a year will get an increase in their subsidy for their second and subsequent children from 72 to 95 per cent, which equates to about $95 a week.

University of Cumbria photography exhibit set to develop soon

Aspiring photographers at Carlisle’s own University of Cumbria are set to showcase the results of their three year study at the end of May. Combining the hard work of 20 final year photography students from the University of Cumbria Institute of the Arts, the exhibit will be available to the public online and in a physical display. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the Institute of the Arts ceased face-to-face teaching from January to March 2021, resulting in all the students being away from campus, making work in their disparate locations across four different countries, staying connected through online learning, video calls, and group chats.
