Talk Will Feature Madeline Miller, Author Of Circe

The Falmouth Public Library and the Falmouth Reads Together committee will welcome author Madeline Miller, whose book “Circe” is this year’s Falmouth Reads Together book pick, to a book talk webinar on Wednesday, May 19, at 7 PM. Published in 2018, “Circe” was on the New York Times bestseller list for 16 weeks, with more than half a million books sold in the United States. “Circe” was shortlisted for the 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction and was the winner of the 2019 Indie Choice Award. It is currently being adapted as a series for HBO Max. Considered a minor goddess, Circe was the daughter of Helios and the nymph Perse. Greek mythology enthusiasts may be familiar with her as a character from “The Odyssey.”

Murder mystery part of “radio hour” fundraiser In an unusual mix of eras and technologies born out of pandemic necessity, the theatrical fundraiser for the West Falmouth Library this year will be a 1940s radio play that uses 2021 Zoom virtual capabilities. The library and writer/director Lisa Jo Rudy’s Not My Monkeys company will present “The Music and Murder Radio Hour,” a nostalgic virtual variety show featuring “vintage” ads, musical acts and a murder mystery/comedy. Not able to gather in person for the fundraising party this year, Rudy reached out to local actors and got more than two dozen to participate via Zoom and video for a one-hour online presentation with two showings.
