Lawsuit Filed Over Saltwater Purge In Kingfisher County

A lawsuit has now been filed over a saltwater purge in Kingfisher County. The water bubbling up from the ground was first discovered in the summer of 2019 and state regulators are still baffled. Right now, every minute around a half gallon of saltwater is coming up from the ground in Omega along the Kingfisher-Blaine county line. A year ago, the flow rate was about three gallons per minute. ”It’s pretty nasty, heavily salted brine water,” said attorney Justin Hiersche. Hiersche is representing the landowners now suing energy and water disposal companies. “The vegetation around the purge is actually dead,” said Hiersche.

Oklahoma Energy Providers Estimate Multi-Billion Dollar Bill From February Winter Storm

By: Barry Mangold OKLAHOMA CITY - Since record-low temperatures Oklahomans experienced last month, state energy providers have requested deferrals to allow the “extraordinary costs” of the winter storm to be spread out over longer periods of time for customers.  Several prominent energy providers have requested the Oklahoma Corporation Commission allow the deferral, including Oklahoma Gas & Electric, Oklahoma Natural Gas, the Public Safety Company of Oklahoma, Arkansas Oklahoma Gas and others.  OG&E estimated the cost of additional power purchases to be $1 billion, which they said was necessary because of a “profound crisis” in natural gas supply during the winter storm, according to OCC documents.
