Patti Newton visited her husband Bert on Monday as the Australian television legend recovers in a Melbourne hospital after having his leg amputated over the weekend to save his life.
Bert, 82, made the life or death decision to go ahead with the surgery when given the dire reality of only having months to live if he went against the advice of doctors.
Just hours after the shock news broke, Bert s wife of 47 years, Patti, 76, was pictured arriving to be by her husband s side along with their daughter Lauren Newton, 40.

Bert went into surgery at 7.50am on Saturday and Patti learned it had been a success at 3pm. It was a long day and a long wait, she said.
Patti, 76, also spoke of her husband s fighting spirit, saying the grandfather of six agreed to the life-changing surgery because he has so much to live for .

It s unclear why Patti was at the facility, but it s believed Bert, 82, could be receiving treatment in the hospital.
