The Dáil Public Accounts Committee wants the recruitment process for the next Secretary General at the Department of Health to be stalled.
Members agreed at a meeting this afternoon that they wanted a full review of the remuneration package, which would see the salary to increase by €81,000.
The committee has now set out its position in a letter to the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
Before the meeting, Sinn Féin TD Matt Carty told RTÉ News that he believes the Dáil s financial watchdog will agree to send a letter to the Department of Public Expenditure due to concerns over a proposed increase in the salary from €211,000 to €292,000.

The Public Accounts Committee has reportedly been advised against a plan to try to stop the recruitment process of a new secretary general for the Department of Health, due to concerns over the planned pay rise.
The position has been advertised with a salary of €292,000, which is up from the current level of €211,000.
It is understood the Dáil s financial watchdog intended to write to the Department of Public Expenditure seeking to stall the process on the basis there was no clear rationale for the wage increase and it risked triggering knock-on claims.
Despite a unanimous position being adopted during a closed session of its last meeting, it is understood that advice provided to the committee was that such a letter could exceed its remit under Standing Orders.
