MULTI-MILLION pound plans for the future of a former Catholic boarding school are up for a six-week consultation. Dorset Council bought the former St Mary s School, near Shaftesbury, for more than £10 million and has announced proposals to turn the site into a new school for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The council is now seeking views from the public on the former girls school, which closed down last year after falling into administration. Leading the consultation, the council s chief executive Matt Prosser said the site has been purchased via the council s capital budget , which is made up of cash from various means including the sale of assets.

Review of Dorset Council report postponed until Covid situation has subsided

Dorset Council DORSET Council will not be communicating a report on its external communications strategy to its councillors. A review of the service has been taking place during the summer with the final report soon to be signed off by senior managers. A group of un-named councillors led by Cllr Sherry Jespersen has been carrying out the strategy review. One of the council’s scrutiny committees had asked to take a look at the report but councillors were told this week that it would not be going through any public committees because it was considered to be an operational matter.
