A Way-Too-Early Look at the 2022 Roster
We re not quite in the dog days of summer, but it sure feels like it. The trade deadline is still far enough away that it s too early to talk about specifics on trades and it s way too early to think about playoff intrigue (for those teams that have a chance at being involved). As early as it is, it isn t totally crazy to take a quick gander at the full roster going into 2022. There s obviously a lot yet to be learned in 2021, but it never hurts to think about the future.
Let s first look at the in-house options to imagine going forward with no additions and no subtractions. Yeah, it s totally crazy to not sign any free agents at all, but let s see where the holes start to appear before doing much more. I m also operating under the philosophy that any player under control beyond 2021 that is traded away needs to be replaced by a legit veteran this winter. Mid-Season Report Card Time

Wilson Ramos - It was a good experiment, and the plan was good. He brought some instant offense with raw power to the club to start the season. Unfortunately, he also has a bad back, and that didn t play well with his defense. Grade C-
Eric Haase - Has surprised with excellent power hitting although it comes in waves. Versatility is far more than expected in being to also play the outfield. Grade B
Jake Rogers - Finally taking charge as both a decent or passable hitter and excellent defender with a strong arm. Got to like his passion for the game and his demeanor handling the young staff. Grade B
