A look at what’s happening around the majors today:
PADRES DEPLETED
San Diego shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. and outfielder Wil Myers tested positive for COVID-19, and the Padres are shorthanded heading into a doubleheader against Colorado at Coors Field.
First baseman Eric Hosmer is out for contact tracing, along with utility players Jurickson Profar and Jorge Mateo. Padres manager Jayce Tingler said Tuesday night he hoped the fallout from the virus would stop and anticipated his team could play the single-admission twinbill as scheduled to make up Monday night’s postponement. Both games are scheduled for seven innings.
The case of Chad Green’s curveball

Relievers become relievers largely because they can handle two pitches, but can’t reliably deliver three. Every now and then, you get a reliever, like Mariano Rivera, who has one pitch, and everyone knows it’s coming, and it’s still an elite offering, but that’s far from the model.
Chad Green, one of the more reliable bullpen arms for the Yankees over the past six seasons, is a two-pitch pitcher, but that second pitch has been a journey. He throws a hard, rising, better-than-average fastball, but the tale of his second pitch and his struggles to command it largely dictate his overall performance game-in and game-out.

The New York Yankees have confirmed seven COVID-19 positives on their coaching and support staff, manager Aaron Boone announced Wednesday.
The new positives include pitching coach Matt Blake. The Yankees announced Tuesday that third-base coach Phil Nevin and first-base coach Reggie Willits had tested positive for COVID-19.
Six of the seven people who have tested positive are asymptomatic, Boone said. All seven people who tested positive have been vaccinated for COVID-19.
