Feb. 4 RALEIGH Some of the most influential institutions in Wake County are together launching an initiative to address systemic racial disparities in North Carolina s largest county.
The initiative, called A Better Wake, is spearheaded by the county, the City of Raleigh, the Raleigh Chamber, the Raleigh-Apex NAACP and the Triangle DEI Alliance. More than 30 businesses have also joined the initiative, including IBM, Advance Auto Parts and Pendo, according to announcement made Tuesday.
It s a lofty goal for A Better Wake, whose members hope to recruit other businesses and community groups to commit to dismantling systemic racism.

Case count tops 757,000
At least 757,526 people in North Carolina have tested positive for the coronavirus and 9,335 have died since March, according to state health officials.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services on Sunday reported 4,899 new COVID-19 cases, down from 6,168 reported the day before.
Health officials on Thursday reported the state s second case of a new coronavirus strain that was first identified in the United Kingdom. The case was in Guilford County.
