A few inches of low snow accumulation could be seen around Grass Valley’s Glenbrook Basin Monday morning. Up to 12 inches of accumulation has been forecast for the foothills after the upcoming high impact winter storm passes.

A winter storm watch extending through Friday morning has been issued for most of Nevada County, according to the National Weather Service.
Foothill and mountain travel will be difficult to nearly impossible through Thursday, when the high impact storm is expected to ease up.
Updated PG&E power outage in Sonora area 130 p.m. 1-22-21
Update at 3:10 p.m.: Utility spokesperson Megan McFarland tells Clarke Broadcasting the cause of the outage was a tree branch that fell onto power lines on Creekside Drive.
Update at 2:30 p.m.: PG&E reports the crews have turned the lights back on for over a thousand customers that lost power just before 11 a.m. in the Sonora area of Tuolumne County. A total of 1,153
Those impacted stretched from the Willow Springs and Mono Vista area to the Phoenix Lake and Crystal Falls area, along both sides of Highway 108. A total of 1,153 customers were without power for about three hours. The utility did not give an update on a cause yet.

Updated PGE Sonora area power outage
Update at 7:45 p.m.: PG&E reports all of the nearly 4,446 customers without lights have had their electricity restored. There were 266 in the Phoenix Lake area that remained without light until around 7:30 p.m. Utility spokesperson Megan McFarland reported to Clarke Broadcasting that the cause of the outage was due to a pole on fire. She further detailed the general background on a pole fire, also called a flashover, and provided the details below on how they can ignite:
