Employees Feel Companies Not Doing Enough to Upskill Them to Full Potential, More Can Be Done: NTUC LearningHub Survey
Despite more than half of employers (52%) reporting insufficient employees with the right skill sets to achieve current business goals, not enough is being done to upskill or reskill employees. Only one third of employees (32%) agree or strongly agree that their company provide them with the right training opportunities to enhance work performance, and almost half (47%) are not confident that their current job will be able to support them in their career growth.

‘IT & Digital’, ‘Business Operations’, and ‘Sales’ Are The Top Functions Companies Are Looking to Augment in a Post-Pandemic Environment
Despite two in five (61%) employers expressing a pessimistic outlook towards the current job market, 56% indicate that they have been recently hiring or intending to hire new talent to meet their current business goals. In particular, the top three functions employers have been hiring or intending to hire for are ‘IT & Digital’ (45%), ‘Business Operations’ (39%) and ‘Sales’ (29%).

SINGAPORE - Media OutReach - 21 December 2020 - In a COVID-19 economy where companies and individuals are compelled to adapt and evolve in a world of disruption, the change in skills required to keep businesses viable is outpacing the talent available. This is evidenced by seven in 10 employers (72%) citing difficulty in filling vacant roles in their companies. In addition, almost all employers (99%) agree that there is a greater need for employees who can take on hybrid roles, in order to meet their current business objectives. A large majority of employers (71%) also intend to hire candidates with broader skill sets in the future.
