The issue of launching another patrolling force named ‘Ababeel Squad’ to curb street crimes in Lahore is not just a matter of the addition of a new wing in capital city police.
Rather, it is the realisation of the failure of Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA), Dolphin Squad and Police Response Unit (PRU), the prior initiatives launched by Lahore Police, that too not more than five years ago and after the spending of billions of rupees.

Aftab Ahmad, a PhD in chemistry and a lecturer at Government Dayal Singh College, died after a kite string slit his throat on Wahdat Road near Muslim Town flyover on Friday morning.
The victim died on the spot. The victim, a resident of Kanganpur, Kasur had been living in a rented place near Chungi Amar Sidhu. On the day of the incident, he was on his way to teach his class at the college. A kite string ran over his neck. Aftab had completed his doctorate rate in chemistry from the United States of America about a year ago. The news was received with much uproar and grief by students and teachers community. A man, on his way back home from work, was killed after a kite string slit his throat in Lahore, the police said on Saturday. Aftab Ahmed was a lecturer at a private college in the walled city. He was on his motorcycle but did not see the kite string that slit his throat. He was passing the Muslim Town flyover. Ahmed died on spot. His body was taken to a hospital and the police have registered an FIR against unidentified men. The victim s family has accused the police of failing to stop kite flying in the city despite a government ban. Following this, Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar took notice of the incident and suspended the area s station house officer. Dogar has sum.

Police launch crackdown on gamblers amid PSL matches

The Lahore police have launched an intelligence-based crackdown to curb gambling during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) cricket matches.
According to Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar, the police have compiled a list of suspected gamblers and senior police officials including SPs, DPOs, SHOs and CIA police have been directed to detain them.
Speaking to The Express Tribune, he said the list included bookmakers who had been involved in cases of betting as well as those against whom public complaints had been received.
