Top books, video, and audiobooks for children and young adults revealed at ALA Midwinter Virtual January 25, 2021 On January 25, the American Library Association (ALA) announced the top books, digital media, video, and audiobooks for children and young adults including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery, and Printz awards at its Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits taking place virtually from Chicago. A list of all the 2021 award winners follows: John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature: When You Trap a Tiger, written by Tae Keller, is the 2021 Newbery Medal winner. The book is published by Random House Children’s Books, a division of Penguin Random House.

Posted by Kate, January 18, 2021 Nosy Crow’s tenth anniversary Ten years ago this month, in January 2011, Nosy Crow published its first book – one of 23 published in that first year of publishing. We’d actually started with a financial plan and a lot of hope the previous February. Looking back at that plan, it’s interesting to think how much of what we planned and hoped for came true, and is still true. What has stayed the same? What has changed? The publishing idea has stayed the same… but also been added to. In the plan, we said we would “focus on the publication of books illustrated in colour (picture books and board books) and for younger children (0 to 7), but will also publish novels, but only those for which we can acquire a wide portfolio of rights.” We have, of course, held true to our sense of ourselves as a children’s publisher, and we publish what we’d describe as child-focussed, parent-friendly books for children aged 0-12. Publication is scheduled for September 2021; Jenny Bent at the Bent Agency negotiated the two-book deal. Alexa Pastor at Simon & Schuster has bought world rights to The Lucky List by Rachael Lippincott, co-author of the bestselling novel Five Feet Apart. In this story of identity, Emily finds comfort in her late mother s high school bucket list and a new girl, Blake, who recently moved back to town, in a story about learning who you are and who you love when the person you ve always shared yourself with is gone. Publication is set for June 2021; Rachel Ekstrom and Emily van Beek at Folio Jr. / Folio Literary Management did the deal.
