Amy Cooper the 41-year-old white woman who infamously called the cops on a Black man who was peacefully birdwatching in New York City’s Central Park is off the hook now that her criminal case has been thrown out.
Christan Cooper was enjoying his hobby on May 25, 2020 when he saw Amy and asked her to leash her dog, which is the law in Central Park. Amy wasn’t too pleased with a Black man asking her to be a law-abiding citizen, so she decided to use her privilege against him in retaliation. She called the cops and lied to them. She said she was being threatened by “an African American man.” Amy wanted Christian to be punished for simply asking her to comply with the law and to be a responsible dog owner. Amy Cooper, the white woman arrested last year for calling 911 during a dispute with a Black man in New York’s Central Park, had her criminal case dismissed on Tuesday after completing a counselling programme meant to educate her on the harm of her actions.
Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon said prosecutors were satisfied with Cooper’s participation in the programme, which she described as an alternative, restorative justice solution, and were not seeking to pursue the case any further.
Charges against #AmyCooper (Central Park birdwatching incident) have been formally dismissed this morning at a hearing in criminal court. The Manhattan ADA Illuzzi told the judge that Cooper had been offered a “restorative” alternative.

More than 100 people gathered outside Gaithersburg City Hall on Sunday to protest the recent killing of a Black man by city police.
At the event, speakers again questioned the Gaithersburg Police Department’s recounting of the Jan. 8 shooting that left 24-year-old Kwamena Ocran dead.
Police say four plain clothes officers, part of the department’s Street Crimes Unit, surveilled Ocran after receiving a report that he was armed with a handgun. When they approached him, he allegedly fled.
Police said Ocran was under surveillance by a plain clothes street crime unit when he was killed on Jan. 8, and that he ran from officers when they approached him.
“There’s going to be justice, because I will be Kwamena’s eyes, ears, mouth,” Ocran’s mother, Melody Cooper, said at the demonstration.
Gaithersburg Police Chief Mark Sroka said when officers approached Ocran and identified themselves, he ran across all six lanes of Frederick Avenue and into a nearby apartment complex.
