Police will conduct a secondary search of a dam in the NSW Hunter region today in search of new evidence over the suspected murder of a young woman 27-years-ago.
The body of 22-year-old Melissa Hunt was found in the Burrenjim Dam, Bluegum Creek near Stockrington, on April 25, 1994.

Police have since received fresh information relating to the investigation prompting their return to the NSW Hunter region today.
Unsolved Homicide Squad detectives, assisted by the forensic experts executed a crime scene warrant at a home at Lambton Road, Waratah, while Police Divers conduct a secondary search of the Burrenjim Dam.

Crime by Erin Lyons Police have resumed the search for clues in a decades old cold case that has left detectives stumped. In December, the state government offered a $1 million reward for information in a desperate attempt to solve the horrific murder of Melissa Hunt, whose body was found dumped in a dam. Officers found her body floating near the wall of the weir in Burrenjim Dam in Bluegum Creek, west of Newcastle, on Anzac Day in 1994. A post mortem examination revealed the Hunter Valley woman, 22, had died from severe head injuries before she was tossed in the dam with rocks in her clothing.
