Adams joins OSU Extension staff Adams SIDNEY A new 4-H youth development educactor has joined the Shelby County Extension office staff. Jessica Adams joined the staff earlier this month. Before coming to Shelby County, she had served for two years as a program assistant for 4-H and the agriculture and natural resources programs in Miami County. While in Miami County, Adams provided educational opportunities to youth in the areas of gardening, agriculture industry, cooking, financial literacy and workforce development. Adams will be responsible for training 4-H volunteers and youth. She will deliver programming in quality assurance in addition to school programs throughout the county.

‘Shocked,’ ‘sickening,’ ‘disturbing’ By Melanie Speicher - mspeicher@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY As the peaceful protest unfolded into a riot in Washington, D.C., Wednesday afternoon, local officials reacted to what happened in the nation’s capital. “I was shocked, dismayed and disgusted at the images I saw on television yesterday and today. Violence and destruction of property have no place anywhere in this country let alone the US Capitol,” said Shelby County Treasurer John Coffield. “I am not sure when, in this country, we stopped having meaningful discussions and stopped respecting the differing opinions of others. All politicians, especially the national politicians, need to tone down the rhetoric, start having meaningful dialogue, and do what is right for the American people. The national media also needs to go back to the time when they had honest and unbiased reporting.”

Board approves levy resolution By Melanie Speicher - mspeicher@sidneydailynews.com SIDNEY The second resolution needed to place an income tax levy on the May ballot was approved Tuesday night by the Sidney City Schools Board of Education. The proposed income tax levy would raise $2,609,518 annually for the district if approved by voters. “This is the second of two required resolutions to place the levy on the May ballot,” said Treasurer Mike Watkins. The ditricted tried three times in 2020 to get a property tax passed for the district. Each try was unsuccessful. “This levy has nothing to do with the cuts the board will have to make,” said newly-elected board President Jason Schaffner.

Courtesy photo WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sidney residents Drew and Kathy Cable, who were in Washington, D.C., when supporters of President Donald Trump breached the United States Capitol, don’t condone the action but understand the fervor. The Cables attended Trump’s rally on Wednesday, arriving at the National Mall at approximately 6 a.m. They were near the back of the crowd when attendees began marching toward the Capitol. Knowing they wouldn’t get near the building, they decided to leave at approximately 2 p.m. They didn’t learn about the breach until they were on the Washington Metro.
