Major step forward for new alcohol treatment service in city

Galway Bay FM 21 May 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – There’s been a major step forward in long-awaited plans to provide a new alcohol treatment service in the city. An dedicated addiction treatment centre was previously based at Merlin Park – but was gutted in an arson attack in 2013, and never replaced. Campaigners have long pointed out that the absence of such a service in a city the size of Galway is unacceptable. Galway West TD and Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton says addiction counsellors have now been appointed to a new service. They’ll take up their positions at a new premises on Merchant’s Road next week.

Galway Bay FM 21 May 2021 print Statement from Saolta: The ransomware attack on the HSE IT systems is having an ongoing impact on services at University Hospital Galway. The patient records system is not currently accessible which means that clinical staff are unable to contact patients to arrange their appointments. Most hospital services have been cancelled as a result however there are some time-dependent treatments which need to continue. Patients who are due to attend the  Haematology/Oncology Day Ward for chemotherapy treatment at University Hospital Galway are asked to telephone 091 544890 or 087 9200753 between 9am and 5pm for advice on their appointment.  The hospital is trying to accommodate day case chemotherapy where possible.

Disruption to Hospital Services at Galway University Hospitals to continue next week

Galway Bay FM 21 May 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – The service disruptions at Galway University Hospitals as a result of the ransomware attack on the HSE IT systems are expected to continue next week. The following disruptions apply to University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital: CANCELLATIONS ·         All diagnostics including x-ray, CT scans, MRI appointments and cardiac investigations are cancelled. ·         Endoscopy services are cancelled. Patients are asked not to come to the hospital unless contacted directly. MATERNITY SERVICES Women are being contacted directly in relation to their colposcopy appointments.
